All about… From Aldi to Harrods

Emma Drew’s money making skills haven’t gone unnoticed in the money blogger community, and even the Daily Mail have picked up on her successes that have allowed her to quit her job and work full-time on From Aldi to Harrods.

Tell us about your blog.

From Aldi To Harrods has the motto “make money, save money and live the life you want” which sums it up. I look at real ways to boost your income and report back as to whether they are any good, with some money saving tips thrown in. I’ve covered anything and everything from surveys to delivering BT phone books.

Why do you write about money?

I started blogging over 5 years ago to warn others about the many money making scams out there – I wanted to let people know about genuine opportunities that didn’t involve having to fork out lots of money to get started. I am passionate about helping others to reach financial freedom, but it also keeps me on track with my own financial goals.

How did you start blogging?

I simply started on Blogger, back in the day, and just got writing. I kept it as a money making journal, but now it is more instructional with a few income reports thrown in. I have since moved to WordPress and had a few different designs of my website.

What’s your most popular post and why?

My most popular post is called “Help! An eBay Buyer Opened a Case Against Me” and it details what you can do to protect yourself as a seller on eBay. Not only does it contain practical advice, it has some anecdotes and commenters share their own tales of unscrupulous eBay buyers.

What’s your favourite post you’ve written and why?

My favourite post is “Your Smelly Shoes and eBay” where I explored the idea of selling on your worn, smelly shoes on eBay. I was surprised to find that it works! There are some pairs of trashed shoes fetching £100s on eBay. The post is one that gets a marmite reaction – people are either disgusted or they find it hilarious and want to give it a try themselves. Someone emailed me to say she’s paid for her wedding by selling her old shoes after reading this post.

What’s your number one money tip?

There is so much money out there to be made – don’t think that it isn’t for you, or that you’re not good enough. Whether an extra £50 or £1,000 a month would change your life, you can do it – even around other commitments. It is about finding something that works for you and sticking with it.

What’s your top blogging tip?

Just go for it! You might think that you have nothing unique to say, but you will attract readers because of who you are and your unique viewpoint.

Why are you part of UK Money Bloggers?

Getting to network with other likeminded bloggers has been amazing. Everyone brings different skills and different perspectives into the mix and there is always something exciting going on.

Who are your three favourite UK Money Bloggers?

There are so many fantastic money bloggers out there that limiting it to just 3 is quite difficult. In no particular order:

Deepak from Latest Free Stuff is doing amazing work – not only does Latest Free Stuff help others, Deepak is doing extremely well for himself and is a lovely guy too.

Charlotte from Lotty Earns is one of my money saving heroes, and getting to meet her at the first UK Money Bloggers awards was a fan girl moment for me. Again, another genuinely lovely person!

Jenni from Can’t Swing a Cat…well firstly, her blog name is pure genius! If anyone can make turn Beyonce’s latest album into a financial blog post then they deserve all my praise.
