All about… Baby Budgeting
Becky Goddard-Hill doesn’t have just one money blog – she’s got three! With a focus on family (and home), Becky shares her experiences and ideas to help everyone live a happy life on a budget.
Tell us about your blog.
My money blogs Baby Budgeting, Family Budgeting and Thrifty Home are all about having a great family and home life on a budget. Being a parent is my top priority in life and it is so important to me to raise my children with financial wisdom in a secure debt free home.
Why do you write about money?
I write about money because I think it can cause so much misery to people if not managed well. I had to learn to live on a budget after having kids and it was a lot simpler than I thought it would be. We live in such a consumerist society and there are so many ways to get sucked into a money making and debt trap. We need to be able to manage our finances well. I wanted to share what I had learned.
How did you start blogging?
I wrote a book called How to afford time off with your baby which was published by Random House. Part of the publishing deal was that I would write a blog to help promote the book. This was nearly 10 years ago now and I have been blogging ever since.
What’s your most popular post and why?
My most popular post ever is How to make beautiful name stone gifts
This has had 1000’s of hits and goes down a storm on Pinterest. Making something from nothing, particularly something beautiful and simple really appeals to people. Crafting from nature is such a lovely thing to do and costs practically nothing.
What’s your number one money tip?
My number one money tip is learn to be proud to be thrifty. Being able to confidently and clearly say “No, I cannot afford that” and admit your limitations will save you from lot of unnecessary spending and uncomfortable and unwelcome situations.
