UK Money Blogger Profile: Millennial Saves

Tell us about your blog.

Millennial Saves is about helping millennial women learn how to manage their money, pay off debt and learn all they need to know about personal finance so that they’re able to have control over their finances.

Why do you write about money?

I grew up in poverty and sought a better life, after years of being in a debt cycle and becoming a successful freelancer in my industry, I still had nothing to show for my hard work. I now write about money to show other young women it IS possible to break the poverty cycle. It IS possible to break the debt cycle, and it IS possible to have financial control.

How did you start blogging?

I started while I was paying off £3.5 worth of credit card debt as a way of documenting my journey and sharing tips and tricks along the way.

What’s your most popular post and why?

A post regarding my career change: Money Can’t Buy You Happiness – My Career Change Cost Me £26,000. (https://www.millennialsaves.co.uk/post/money-can-t-buy-you-happiness-my-career-change-cost-me-26-000)

What’s your favourite post you’ve written, and why?

My guide on how and when you need to submit a self-assessment.. I LOVE doing my self assessment and as money making is a huge topic, I thought it was super important to teach people all they need to know and offer a free recourse to do so – Side Hustles and the Tax Man

What’s your top blogging tip?

Learn from others around you! And just write what you’re passionate about.

Why are you part of UK Money Bloggers?

It’s a great community of people whose collective goal is helping others better their finances.

Who are your three favourite UK Money Bloggers?

The person whose Insta and website I stumbled on when I was fed up of always being in debt and inspired me to join the community of people trying to better their finances The Money Fox

One of my favourite insta accounts to follow thanks to his super clever graphics that easily explain personal finance concepts – MrMoneyJar

I love following Katy on instagram, I love her real, and raw content of her life and great blog content – Katykicker

And now…some quickfire questions…

What’s your number one money tip?

Keep track of your spending, whether it’s through a written expense tracker, spreadsheet or budgeting app. Know and understand where your money is going.

What is the best bargain you have ever bought?

I managed to find a flatshare in South East London for £300pcm all in! The couple I lived with were super nice and I often had the flat to myself as we worked opposing schedules!

What is a product / service you are happy to pay the extra for?

I pay £80 a year to have Hola, which is a VPN browser extension and app, it means I can watch American Netflix (which has Grey’s Anatomy!) whenever I want on any device!

Tell us something about yourself.

I once ran a successful BBC Sherlock related blog, but at aged 15, when I started getting recognised on the streets for it, I panicked and deleted my internet footprint including the blog!

And finally…where can we find you on social media?

Best wishes,

Emilie
